Layer up

Abbe Fenimore of Studio Ten 25

Layering is key to creating the depth and visual appeal that small spaces are usually missing.

One of Fenimore’s entry go-to’s: mirrors. They help open up and introduce light to smaller entry spaces.

“Look for something oversized and interesting that will create a wow factor and give you a place to grab one last look before you walk out of the door,” Fenimore says.

When choosing pieces for an entry, look for items that are cohesive with the rest of your home, but don’t be afraid to play with color.

“An ottoman in a fun accent color, a great lamp with colorful details, and accessories that grab your attention make a great combination for any entry,”she says.

I am honored, humbled and pretty excited to share such great news! For the 5th year in a row, I have made DHome’s list of Best Designers In Dallas. It is a major deal for me, because the local showrooms vote on this. Nope, we do not pay to be on this list and there is no campaigning going on to make sure your name makes the list. It is an honor given to designers and the fact that my reps and “co-workers” respect me and my work is wonderful. I work with my reps day in and day out, and they make difficult situations easier to manage. Bragging? Maybe a little, but I never get over the fact that this is my job, my life and that I am working with people that make me smile even when things are going crazy on a project.

Grab the latest issue of DHome to see the full list of designers. We are also sharing a few design secrets as well as our favorite go-to pieces!

We are finally ready to take on the remodel of our new home!!! EEEKKK! After the first home we bought fell through and we spent about a month living in hotel rooms, our new home found us. It is an adorable little nugget with more potential than I had ever though was possible. The previous owners made so many perfect additions to the home when they updated it last year, so now it just needs a a second floor and about 1,500 additional square feet to be the perfect place for our family.

I can not wait to see the entire process, and I will be able to see it from our garage apartment in the back yard! YES, we are crazy to move into a 400 sqft garage apartment for 6-8 months. Our contractors are already taking bets on how it will actually take for one of us to loose it and move into an apartment. No way, after all of the ups and down our lives have thrown us the past few years (no need to elaborate on all of that now) we can do this! Or at least that is the attitude I am taking. I think it will be fun and opening up all of the boxes that have been sitting in storage for almost a year will be like Christmas morning.

So, as I begin to finalize the interior finishes it is time to move on to the process of our interiors. I promise to share it all once I have my mind made up and I will be blowing up the blog, instagram and facebook with updates…I am warning you now. I have dreamed of a dressing room and an over the top pink and floral room to call my own since I was a little girl. And now…it is finally going to happen.  I wanted to share the design inspiration today and as we narrow down the design, I will share more of that too!

I love designing spaces for stylish family in NYC, they are always open to bold accents but know how to keep the overall feel sophisticated. This dining room is going to be beyond fabulous. Plenty of gold leafing, bold geode art prints and killer quartz lamps will do their best to compliment the stunning view.

Pretty pink, bold floral and happy little birds are no joke on this April Fools Day. I’m pretty much obsessed with  Moissonnier’s pieces, they bring out the traditional side of me while still making my bold and color loving side smile!

A nursery fit for a prince! John Henry is only a few weeks old, but he is already catching zzzz and counting sheep in his new room! I’m very impressed that the nugget is actually sleeping in his nursery… bachelor pad already! Once we have a few final details in place, we will photograph the final look, can’t wait to share.

It’s Easter weekend and of course I had to show off my favorite bunnies! We are working on a master bedroom update and thought this Hunt Slonem Bunny fabric from Lee Jofa would add a little something whimsical yet sophisticated…or maybe we use the wallpaper. Decisions, decisions.

It’s a work from the patio kind of day here in Dallas. We have had the most amazing Spring weather this year after a very mild winter. Outdoor spaces will become hard to spend time in once our 100+ Summer temperatures make their way down South.  I’m pretty sure our clients and their sweet puppy dogs are enjoying their outdoor patio today, I’m a little jealous.
