THE BLOG

Thank you DesignShuffle.com for including our Downtown Dallas Loft in your latest post!

“Updating living spaces can begin on the floor. Adding a new rug is easy and can have a big impact. From the foyer and through every room in the house, rugs make a big design statement and a welcome change. What could be easier? Just choose the one that’s just right for your room, roll it out and enjoy!”

Making time to get away and enjoy a short vacation with my family has been on my “to-do” list for a while.  Since my Dad passed away, we haven’t taken the time to get away and really enjoy having fun with each other again. My Step-Mother decided that we needed a girl’s weekend in Las Vegas, so we packed our bags and took off for a long weekend to reconnect and relax. Shopping, spa days and taking in a few shows took up most of our time during the long weekend. We laughed, cried and spent a bit too much money!!!

Of course I love popping into all of the casinos to see the interiors, so I wanted to show off a few of my favorite pictures from the trip. You know I had to get a few glitzy glam chandeliers too! Vegas does it big and I love nothing more than a room filled with shimmery chandeliers!!!

As a designer, I love being able to get a first look at the new pieces from my favorite vendors. Once I spot something at market, it could be 6 months to a year before the piece is available and that is a long time to wait! Spotting fabulous pieces for projects is the best way to be inspired and when your client is shopping with you, it makes it so much easier to pull the trigger. I recently spent the day shopping with a client for their new home and we found quite a few pieces that will help us pull it all together!  Here are a few of our favorites from the trip!

Love seeing our latest nursery project featured on Style Me Pretty Living recently!

My clients had a clear vision for their baby’s nursery from the moment we sat down at our first design meeting. We started with the color palette, balancing the expansion of coral and turquoise from the rest of the house into the nursery to create a cohesive flow, while also giving the room a personality of its own. We settled on a boho chic feel which was achieved through classic textures paired with birds and butterflies, a fun way to take the baby from her first steps and into toddlerhood. The classic grey and white palette of the furniture will allow the pieces to grow with the room and the blush pink walls were just enough to make it girly without taking over. Adding a touch of whimsy with a cozy nook at the window was a perfect way to bring in some adventurous colors while topping off the space.

The Dallas Morning News started a new designer home team series that runs the first Saturday of each month.

Emily Hewett of A Well Dressed Home, Dallas, awelldressedhome.com

Abbe Fenimore of Studio Ten 25, Dallas, studioten25.com

Barbara Gilbert of Barbara Gilbert Interiors, Dallas, barbaragilbertinteriors.com

Ashlina Kaposta of Ashlina Kaposta Interiors, Dallas, thedecorista.com

Elaine Williamson-Romero of Elaine Williamson Designs, Dallas, elainewilliamsondesigns.com

We are now in the 4th month of the home team series and I am loving the feedback that has been received. Five Dallas designers (including yours truly) are asked to discuss the latest trends and share tips and tricks for making them work in your home.

This month focuses on Tile and how to incorporate the best look for your space.

Some design elements are easy to change — paint, fabric, accessories. Tiles and countertops, not so much. You want to make sure you get them right, but that doesn’t mean you have to steer clear of color or personality.

From floor to ceiling and kitchen to office, there’s no shortage of places where tiles work. With diverse styles and materials from sturdy and practical to decorative and showstopping, there are almost infinite looks and combinations to be made with tiles.

If you want something a little more exciting than the basic subway tile but are not sure how to still keep things basic, try a simple pattern. We used a bold mirrored moroccan tile from Ann Sacks over the stove but kept the overall feel minimal by using a more simple linear tile throughout the remaining areas of the kitchen back splash.

We instantly feel in love with the Arabesque pattern and used the soft white glass version to bring a little interest to this kitchen. We didn’t want to go overboard with the back splash, but also didn’t want to settle for the standard subway tile either.

We have used Hygge & West’s Petal Pusher wallpaper in gold on a few projects and are smitten. The soft floral pattern fills the space with a super chic feel and the metallic gold takes it to the next level. Our client’s were going for girly chic spaces, so this modern take on a floral was the perfect fit to pull the rooms together. Being bold with wallpaper can be easily achieved without going overboard. Just keep the pattern simple, tonal and go for it!

This small powder bathroom was dark and since it is built in under the stair case, it had a cavelike feeling that was not chic at all. So we covered all of the walls with the gold Petal Pusher paper to brighting it up. I love the bold pattern in this small space, it really did create the wow factor that our client was after while bringing the chic look that she wanted too.  The glitzy light fixtures bounced the perfect amount of light off of the metallic paper as well.

The Bella Lash Studio here in Uptown Dallas is located in a old house that was loaded with charm. But, it was lacking in the girly chic department so we brought in the Gold Petal Pushers paper to make the best of the unique ceiling and walls in the space. We used the pattern as an accent wall in the main lobby, it was the perfect way to greet clients as they entered the space. The soft floral pattern paired well with the other graphic patterns and soft pink & turquoise accents.

We carried the floral pattern into the treatment rooms and I love how taking it all the way across the angled ceiling opened up the dark space. Again, the glitzy lighting draws attention to the metallic finish on the wallpaper and opens up the space to create a soothing treatment room for their clients as well as a fabulous place to work all day!

I have been a huge fan of designer and artist Mari Robeson for quite a while now. We carry a few of her fabulous pillows and illustrations at Shop Ten 25 and even have her pieces in our own home. I love working with Mari and her collections never disappoint.  I recently asked her to help me with a  few project illustrations, and she knocked it out of the park!!!
