State Fair…. Scratch & Sniff
I wish blog post had a scratch and sniff option! There is something about the smell of cotton candy, turkey legs and fried beer that make you gain 10lbs without even eating any of it! We decided to take our date night to the State Fair and the scene was too good not to share.
FUN FACT: Corn Dogs were invented at the State Fair of Texas in 1942
If you can fry it, you can find it at the State Fair. Here are a few of the fried options we had to choose from:Fried Beer….Fried PB&J….Fried Butter (yuck)…Fried Margaritas….Fried Lattes….Fried Smores…Fried Moon Pies…Fried Lemonaid…Fried Snickers Bar…and on and on. We had the fried smores and they were yummy bo scrummy! Pictures of food gross me out so let’s stick with all of the fun banners!
FUN FACT: The 2010 winners and ones to try this year are…

Best Taste: Texas Fried Frito Pie

My hubby decided that he was going to win me an oversized stuffed animal, a $2 dog cost us about $25 but that’s all part of the fun right! Picking the right game was apparently a tough decision. We looked at the Scooby Doo ball toss but that didn’t shake out to well.
We had better luck at the “basketball court” and ended up going home with Tulip, the packing peanut filled puppy!
Tulip had dinner with us later…Corn on the cobb and and a steak fajita taco!
This couple cleaned up! A huge UT Longhorn, a monkey and a bike….yes that’s right folks… you can win a bike at the State Fair!
FUN FACT: The 212-foot Texas Start Ferris Wheel has been the largest in North America since it debuted in October 1985, just months before the Texas Sesquicentennial. As of 2003, the fair’s marketing director estimated that the fair was bringing about US $350 million dollars into the Dallas economy.
Before we left, we had to take a few spins on the ginormous TEXAS ferris wheel! We were paired with a 12yr old boy who was super nervous and his dad.
I love the way the ferris wheel looks at night!
I highly recommend having a date night at the State Fair! Plus, who doesn’t love to see Big Tex hanging out in his Dickies?
FUN FACTS: The 52 foot tall statue, who has become the official mascot of the State Fair Of Texas, celebrated his 50th birthday in 2002. Tex wears a size 70 cowboy boot and his hat is a whopping 75 gallon Stetson. He weighs 6,200 lbs! Guess Big Tex loves his fried beer!

We split a Fletchers corn dog too!!! Why is the State Fair an excuse to pig out? I feel a bit heavier this morning!
