Changing The Scene
A few months ago I shared a little more details from a project photo shoot, you can see the post HERE. I know not everyone approves of publishing images on the blog that are not edited or perfect, but I think it gives you the real story on how things work. Last week I posted images from a reception area in a Dallas law firm I have been working on and received quite a few emails asking about the details. I did my best to get back to everyone but sharing sources can be touchy, especially when your client doesn’t want those details all over town.
Today, I wanted to show you a few of the test shots from the photo shoot. They have not been edited or retouched but they will give you a realistic look at how things get moved around. Before we finalize all of the lighting and final placement of the furniture and accessories, we start taking test shots. Here is what the lobby looked like when we walked in for the shoot.
After removing the heavy green plants and brining in white Tulips to create a softer feel, the space is beginning to take shape. Now I just need to find the right pillow combination.
I like the darker teal pillow on the left…not so sure I’m digging the brown and ivory moroccan print pillow. The flowers and accessories look a bit off too so we need to adjust them a bit and remove the reception phone off of the side table.
The table layout looks better now….
But the ottomans look off now…
I love the addition of the second dark teal pillow so I think it’s time to start removing what isn’t working.
Pillows are perfect, table arrangement is working for me but the ottomans are still not in the right place.
I think we have our shot! Now….it’s time to adjust the lighting and make those pesky light fixtures disappear!
Here is the final image! The switches were removed, the accessories are in the perfect place and this reception space is the perfect blend of the modern and traditional look my client was after!

Don’t you love moving stuff around? Makes me think about my parents when we would get something new and my mother would say “right there” and then say “no, move it over here”

Thanks for sharing your process. The final styling and retouch look great. The devil IS the details (a McLuhan quote).
