The Garage Apartment
The remodel plans are in full swing and our architect is busy drafting the first set of design plans for the remodel. Yay!!! Planning takes patience and I know that we will go through a few changes, updates and pricing exercises until we finally rip the roof off of this little home.
We have decided to convert the back garage into an apartment in the meantime. I think it will be a great investment and much better than paying rent and double bills in an apartment during the remodel. Once we have moved back into the main house, my husband will use the garage apartment as his “man room” and finally have a space to do all of the stinky things boys do. Cigar smoking, beer, cards and multiple TVs are a few of the things he will enjoy back there.
Here is the garage BEFORE. We plan to remove both garage doors but keep the framing in place for them. We will add one of the doors back after the remodel, I think that will make the man room amazing on those days when the temperatures are under 70.
And a few shots of the inside too. We will update the cabinets, add a sink and make that our “kitchen”. If we had to pull a car into the right side of the garage, we still have room to do so. The left side closet will be removed and make way for a 5′ deep x 10′ wide bathroom with a tub/shower combination, toilet and vanity. We will also add a 6′ closest on the left side wall. It will be a great place to keep our clothes for now and a great place for my husband to keep his hunting clothes once it becomes a man room.
