Small Changes make a big difference
I love being asked by potential clients to show before and afters of the projects I have worked on. This Master bedroom and bath happens to be one of my favorites..maybe because it’s mine. My husband and I purchased our 1950’s ranch in late 2007 and I have finally found the time to update! When we purchased the house, all of the major things in the remodel were complete. The plumbing, electrical and basic finishes were all updated and made for a perfect starting point.
Here are the before, during and after shots of our master bedroom. I am fortunate to have a husband who let me “take over” the design decisions. I wanted the room to be bright, soft and a great place to shake off those crazy busy days!
BEFORE: The cabinets were taking over the small bathroom and blended in with the existing travertine. The dark hardware on the cabinets looked dated and didn’t match the fixtures on the sink or bathtub. The walls were bland and the room desperately needs color. There wasn’t much light and the room felt small.
AFTER: Now, a fresh coat of white paint on the cabinets( Benjamin Moore’s Dove White) and new hardware really update the look and create the feel of a larger space. We also added a chandelier for added light and of course a touch of bling. The new wall color ( Sherwin Williams Rain Washed) creates a spa like atmosphere without being the focus of the room.
Personal Touches: I love this photograph. My mother was putting pink sponge rollers in my hair! I love seeing it every morning and it always puts a smile on my face. My mother was around my age at the time, I must have been around 4 years old.
Another HUGE THANK YOU to Melanie Johnson for photographing my work!

Hi Kristen,
Thank you so much for the compliment! The chandelier in the master bathroom came from The Great Indoors, I paid full price for the piece but I loved the unique shades and of course the bling!

Thanks so much for the info!! I wasn’t able to find it on the site, but I might need to look again. It may be out of my price range, but yes, I love the shades and bling! I am so thankful that I found your site. Now that I am finally ready to decorate my own home, I have been so inspired by you. 🙂

It turned out beautiful! I love the chandy! Warm stone, cool blue, and the shine and glitz of silver invite the viewer to stay and desire a soak in that lovely tub! Wonderful results!- Kim

There are so many touches that I love. Sponge rollers? HELLO! My mom was always putting them in my hair. Then you had to try to find a comfortable way to sleep. 😉 Darling.
I love it all, but one of my favorite features is how the bathroom mirror and the sunburst mirror look into each other and really feature the chandelier.
GREAT work,
abby

I saw this bathroom in a magazine and tore it out to use for my inspiration and accidently found your blog today. Can you tell me the exact tile you used? Or a good inexpensive match?
I love it!
