One, Two or Three?
We are in the process of selecting a new rug for our client’s front sitting room and although I have my favorite, I thought it would be fun to show you a little behind the scenes. We started off by visiting The Rug Company’s Dallas showroom to see what would catch our eye. Flipping through those fabulous piles of rugs is so much fun and after an hour or so, we had our favorites pulled aside.
We are going for a sleek and chic sitting room but want the rug to be the wow factor that ties all of the pieces in the room together. Here is a look at the three choices we narrowed it down to.
Option #1 Simple & understated: Suzanne Sharp’s Iron Rug is 100% wool, super soft underfoot and brings in the contemporary edge that we are going for! I love how the soft curves in the pattern compliment the straight lines in the furniture and it looks perfect with the newly stained hardwoods!
Option #2: The new Silk Bamboo Ikat Collection is one of my new favorites and I love the blurred look of the pattern and the price, we decided to try the Bamboo Pale! These rugs are hand knotted using fibre drawn from the bamboo plant, which has an appearance very similar to silk. The effect is superb and wildly gorgeous….but I’m not sold on it in this room. Looks a bit busy and takes over a little more than it needs to.
Option #3: Giles Deacon’s Lavalier is perfect in this room! I love the mix of the metallic aesthetic of a cold steel chain made from the softest silk for the raised and carved motif. The background is deliciously textured flat loop Tibetan wool so the dimension that the combination of the two creates is a work of art.
