Fixing The Floors
When we began working with our client on the update of her home (already gorgeous P.S.) the #1 item on her “to-do” list was to re-finish the original hardwood floors throughout the home. We are going to be bringing in tons of fabulous new updates throughout the home but the yellowish hardwoods were going to cramp our style.
So, we decided to veer away from the typical “coffee” stain that we see so often and mix it up a bit. We used a mix of ebony and beechwood to create the gorgeous grey that we were after. We loved the floors in this inspiration image but wanted it to be a touch lighter.
BEFORE: We have BIG plans for this sitting room. It is the first room you see when you walk into the home so it has to be beyond fabulous. The existing rug is gone but that fabulous acrylic x-base coffee table is not going anywhere! This room will look completely different with the floor updated too!
You think you know what you want….then you see all of the options. Since we are working with red oak, we needed to make sure that we had a good handle on how the stain would look. We didn’t want the red undertones to take over like they can do when you are working with red oak. We selected the top right option of course, but each sample had a % of the grey mixed in.
DURING…the stain has it’s final coat of polyurethane and is looking so good! I can not wait to get all of the design elements in place!! The home looks and feels so much more updated and chic!! I promise to share the updates as we move along!
