Dallas Morning News {June Home Team}

The Dallas Morning News started a new designer home team series that runs the first Saturday of each month.

Emily Hewett of A Well Dressed Home, Dallas, awelldressedhome.com

Abbe Fenimore of Studio Ten 25, Dallas, studioten25.com

Barbara Gilbert of Barbara Gilbert Interiors, Dallas, barbaragilbertinteriors.com

Ashlina Kaposta of Ashlina Kaposta Interiors, Dallas, thedecorista.com

Elaine Williamson-Romero of Elaine Williamson Designs, Dallas, elainewilliamsondesigns.com

We are now in the 4th month of the home team series and I am loving the feedback that has been received. Five Dallas designers (including yours truly) are asked to discuss the latest trends and share tips and tricks for making them work in your home.

This month focuses on Tile and how to incorporate the best look for your space.

Some design elements are easy to change — paint, fabric, accessories. Tiles and countertops, not so much. You want to make sure you get them right, but that doesn’t mean you have to steer clear of color or personality.

From floor to ceiling and kitchen to office, there’s no shortage of places where tiles work. With diverse styles and materials from sturdy and practical to decorative and showstopping, there are almost infinite looks and combinations to be made with tiles.

If you want something a little more exciting than the basic subway tile but are not sure how to still keep things basic, try a simple pattern. We used a bold mirrored moroccan tile from Ann Sacks over the stove but kept the overall feel minimal by using a more simple linear tile throughout the remaining areas of the kitchen back splash.

We instantly feel in love with the Arabesque pattern and used the soft white glass version to bring a little interest to this kitchen. We didn’t want to go overboard with the back splash, but also didn’t want to settle for the standard subway tile either.

A scroll stopper if ever there was one. In this chic safari nursery, we leaned into my client's love for travel and installed a full-room mural that felt sophisticated enough to easily transition from nursery to a toddler's room (and beyond). My recipe was one part lacquered storage, one part acrylic accents (yes, it even works in a nursery), and one part upholstered pieces in durable fabrics. What's your room recipe?

Currently trending: Curved furniture. Are you on team curved? Maybe it's the hot pink or maybe it's the settee, but I'm definitely a fan.
