Art – Finding The Perfect Piece
I have been receiving quite a few emails lately asking about art. Where to find it, how to select it and what options are available. Art is such a personal decision and you may fall in love with a piece because of the pattern, color or maybe it is an artist that you love. Budget is always a factor and if you don’t have thousands of dollars sitting around in your “art fund”, prints can be a great option. I’m sure there are tons of people out there that are not a fan of budget art, but I find that it allows my client’s to finish off their space with something that they can afford and are completely happy with.
These days, websites like art.com, easy.com and even shopten25.com are go to places for affordable art prints. Watercolor, archival paper and even canvas options are available making it super easy for anyone to find a piece that works for them. I’m constantly being asked by clients to help them find art that is unique and not easily found at every home furnishing store. Today I thought I would show off a few of my favorite art installation and give you a little insight to why we ended up selecting each piece.
We recently installed this custom sized canvas Peacock Print in Blue from Laura Dro over a console table. The space is primarily lavender but we wanted to mix it up a bit with fuchsia and a few bright pops like yellow and a bit of green. Now we are able to bring in a few accent colors throughout the space and of course create the wow factor for everyone that steps into the space.
I recently posted details from the new D TV set for D The Broadcast and D Living. A monochromatic space was the foundation for the set but you know me, pops of color found their way in. I have been working with Dallas artist Megan Adams Brooks on quite a few fun projects (stay tuned for more on that soon) so when I began to search for art she was my go to girl! “Fetish” is a gorgeous silk piece with amazing colors and texture, I would love to see her create a print of this one! But for now, Megan has a few other print options available HERE.
I am in love with this boutique project! The art pieces we selected completed the space and did their job of pulling it all together. We worked with Black Crow Studios to create this custom sized watercolor piece for the huge blank wall in the back office. And just to keep the pink going, we brought in the needlepoint Flamingo by Suzy Hoodless from The Rug Company. Sometimes taking a risk pays off and this time…we think it did!
Changing out art with the seasons can be fun too. This sitting room stays minimal in the winter and fall months but boasts a fabulous bold art print (Stairway To Heaven) from Dallas artist Chris Judy. It is pretty masculine but with the soft blues, I was able to tone it down with the Kelly Wearstler Fern Tree pillows.
For the Spring and Summer months, I thought it would be nice to bring in something a bit more feminine. I toned down the pillows with a few of my favorites, Wavy Ikat and Baubles Green from Megan Adams and selected something bold in color for the art. This original canvas painting (Confetti), also from Megan Adams was perfect. I love the bits of yellow, teal and deep fuchsia.
And last but certainly not least is one of of my favorite abstract prints from Austin, TX artist Mary Lee. Red Vim was a pieces we had commissioned for a client’s guest room. We need something as bold and dynamic as the room and since my client loved red, we new it was a must have! We loved it so much, that we now have it available as a print in canvas and on archival paper.
Looking for something a little less serious? Here are a few of our favorite pieces from artist that make us happy!!
Mari Robeson is a killer watercolor artist! Her prints are super chic and the perfect pieces for layering a bookshelf, wall above your desk or to brighten up a tiny powder bath! We are big fans of her watercolor room illustrations too! You can find more of Mari’s prints HERE.
Maybe your a fashionista at heart. Stephanie Jimenez creates some of the most stunning fashion illustrations around, we love them so much that we have had her create a few custom pieces for our clients!
