How to design around black & white
How do you prefer to see rooms dressed up in black and white? There are two main ways to use the classic color palette. First, using black an white in a monochromatic scheme can be masculine, refined and completely classic. I love the look of black or even charcoal walls mixed with warm wood tones, graphic patterns and crisp white accents.

Maybe your ideal use of black and white doesn’t work without pops of color. You can always build off of the basic neutrals with colorful lamps, accessories and bold artwork. I love the flexibility that this options brings to any room because you can make simple changes with pillows or accessories down the road. The overall look is still very classic but can be a bit more feminine and even more playful with added color. Wanting to add more glamour? Try gold or silver leaved accessories like mirrors or end tables as the last layer to bring in that shine you are after.

The first piece worth grabbing to start with that black and white look is a rug! Going bold with fun graphics can be a great building block for your black and white foundation. Smaller rugs in the kitchen and bathroom are easier to find these days too and even come in indoor/outdoor materials for areas where water can be an issue. Here are a few of my favorites.
