Name That Pattern
Houzz.Com recently posted a fun article about limitless variations of patterns and how they can make a major impact in a space.
The Greek key is also known as ‘meander’ or ‘meandros’, perhaps for the way the linear pattern meanders around edges and borders. It is constructed from a continuous line that forms a repeated and geometric motif. Commonly seen in ancient Greece, it appears in architecture and pottery and is an iconic characteristic of the Classical era.
Here are a few shots from one of our earlier projects where we implemented a classic Greek Key pattern. The pattern adds a modern detail to the drapery panel and roman shades without taking over the room.
With a gorgeous lake view and a wall of windows, this living room is the perfect place to relax after a long stressful day at work. My client wanted to preserve the view, while still being able to block the glare and have privacy. A custom cornice board and stationary drapery panels frame out the window, yet they do not take away from the view. The linen roller shades are tucked neatly under the cornice board when not in use.

This home office was designed to have a masculine feel and clean contemporary pieces that also had function. The graphic rug from Global Views set the tone and we brought in a few more orange accents to pull the color around the room. The Greek Key pattern compliments the rug well and kept the shades from looking too blah.
