Before & After Bungalow Kitchen

apples2

There is nothing I enjoy more than taking a home so neglected and unloved and turning it into a place to call home. This Fort Worth Bungalow needed more than just love, it needed to be gutted and that’s exactly what we had to do.  Bungalows hold a special place in my heart, they have such a spirit and their history is written all over the walls, floors and in this case….the smoke stained outline of where pictures were hung on the walls! Yep, you guessed it… in this house once lived a smoker.

The owner wanted this 1200 square foot home to be updated but he also wanted to keep the charm that comes along with owning a cottage style bungalow. We replaced the sheetrock throughout the home and gave the new walls a soft buttery yellow coat of paint.  The existing hardwood floors were in decent shape so fortunately we did not have to replace them or have them re-finished. All that was left to tackle was the kitchen and bath (see bungalow bath remodel). These are to two areas that buyers always look to be updated with plenty of storage, new appliances and a layout that actually works. With all of these detail in mind, we completely changed the layout of the kitchen, added new cabinets for more storage and brought in a glass mosaic back splash to finish off the updated cottage look.  The breakfast area  off the kitchen also received new paint and updated fixtures to complete the look.

Before: Yikes! This kitchen was NOT a place to prepare a meal. Everything was out dated including the HUGE 1950’s range! The layout was awkward, there was a doorway at the back of the kitchen and the floor and ceiling tiles had to go pronto.  We closed off the door and replaced all of the cabinets, countertops, floors and appliances for a fresh and clean looking kitchen.

The results:  A combination of updated fixtures, classic details and a soft color palette expand the space into a relaxing yet sophisticated cottage bungalow.  Our updated cottage bungalow kitchen is now an open and bright place to prepare a small meal for two  or entertain a gathering of friends and family. Enjoy the before and afters!
