    THE BLOG

The Spring issue of To & From Magazine is out online and packed full of fabulous gift ideas for Mother’s Day as well as a few other Spring events. Two fabulous bloggers (Katie from Modern Eve & Meg from Meg Biram/formerly of Mimi +Meg) have created To & From! To & From Magazine is HUGE gift guide curated by tons of fashion and design bloggers. I love how it is organized and how each blogger has a category that they focused on.  I am also super excited to see a few pieces from Shop Ten 25 included in the issue too….

I thought it would be fun to share the BEFORE & AFTER on the Thrift Studio vignette that I designed for Dwell With Dignity. The is the second time that I have worked with Dwell to design a vignette for Thrift Studio. I’m not going to lie, it was quite the challenge and I was really forced to design the space quickly and with quite a few unique situations that I don’t usually come across with my design projects.

We were required to use 50% of the pieces in our vignette from the Dwell warehouse.  Most of the pieces in the warehouse were in decent condition, but most needed complete overhauls. That is where the kindness of the Dallas design community really kicks in to help pull it all together. Today, I want to say THANK YOU to all of the vendors that stepped up to help me pull this vignette together for Dwell.  I promise to mention them ALL in the AFTER portion of the post.

THE SPACE BEFORE: I started with a blank space. Since the Thrift Studio pop up shop has always been held in an empty showroom space in the Dallas Design District, it makes it easy to do anything needed to pull it all together.  This space was about 30′ wide and about 15′ deep. I had two awkward niches.

THE FURNITURE BEFORE: The Furniture I used was a bit of a mess. The fabric was ripped, faded and screaming for a major overhaul. The had great bones and  I was fortunate that they were not a lost cause. I knew I was going to go with a grey, lavender and navy color palette and had my fabrics waiting to be unrolled and upholstered on these pieces.

DURING….I was beyond excited when Innovations donated a TON of this Metalessence Mulberry Wallcovering I about fell over! We used the wallcovering on the inside walls of each niche, it kept them from looking so blah and created the chic background we were after.

AFTER THE FURNITURE: Now that the walls were painted and wallpapered, it was time to start brining in all of the updated upholstery pieces, case goods and lighting!!!

JC’s Upholstery donated the upholstery work on the sofa and gorgeous wingback chairs. Local Dallas artist Megan Adams donated her Joker Ikat fabric for the wingbacks….I’m so obsessed with those chairs! We used a fabulous navy chenille for the sofa.  Again & Again rocked the donated upholstery job on the small barrel back chairs! We used an ivory  textural linen from Dwell’s warehouse and the navy chenille as a contracting cording….LOVE!!

THE SPACE AFTER: I loved the way the vignette came together! So chic and full of interesting pieces. I could not have done this without the fabulous vendors that helped me support Dwell With Dignity!!!  Here is the list of vendors, I have tried to link to each of the pieces or something similar.

Last week Dwell With Dignity had their fourth Thrift Studio preview party, One Kings Lane Tastemaker Sale launch and of course the official opening of the month long Thrift Studio pop up shop.  The preview party was a HUGE success and I’m pretty sure each designer vignette sold almost everything in their space! I have received quite a few emails asking “where can I find that?” in regards to pieces from the vignette I designed, so it made perfect sense to create a GET THE LOOK from my vignette!

I love being inspired by color and mixing variations of the same color is really fun to do. Today’s Weekend Window is all about Blue and the fabulous combinations like teal, turquoise and navy.  And of course, who doesn’t love a few mirrored accents and pops of bold accent color to help pull it all together?

Over the past few weeks, I have been sharing sneak peeks from Dwell With Dignity’s 2013 Thrift Studio. Thrift Studio is a not-like-any-other-thrift-store THRIFT STORE. Thrift Studio is a bi-annual 30 day pop-up shop created to provide financial viability and fundraising for Dwell with Dignity through selling the overstock of donated, gently used furniture, housewares, accessories and high end designer finds to the public. All proceeds to benefit the future work, growth, organization and structure of Dwell with Dignity!

Tomorrow is the big night!!! The preview party kicks off Thrift Studio and this year is going to bigger than ever. One Kings Lane has partnered with Dwell With Dignity and if you are familiar with One Kings Lane, you know they have some of the most amazing curated sales online.  The Tastemaker Tag Sales have been a BIG favorite of mine for years,  and I am still pinching myself that I am able to bring a few of my favorite pieces to the Dwell With Dignity Tag Sale!! All of the proceeds from the sale support this fabulous organization so make sure you set your alarm so you don’t miss anything.

Here is a preview of my Tastemaker Tag Sale and a better look at the vignette that I designed for Thrift Studio.

I have loved the idea of framing these Vogue prints for quite a while now. The pop of color and sophistication they bring into this simple, yet girly chic entry lets them become the focal point.  The clean white basic drapes and console keep the space airy while the bold accent chair, velvet pillow and brass lamp help to create just the right amount of contrast.

Today The Dallas Morning News featured Dwell With Dignity’s Thrift Studio in a fabulous two page COLOR write up. All of the vignettes in the Thrift Studio are so full of color so I’m happy to see them all in print!  You can see the full write up by the lovely Jamie Knodel HERE.  If you are in Dallas, pop on over to Dwell With Dignity to snag a ticket to the big April 18th preview party!
