THE BLOG

Our Fort Worth Bungalow remodel didn’t stop with the kitchen, the existing bathroom needed a major face lift as well.  The bathroom layout had to stay but with the addition of an updated vanity and a rustic “barn door” to enclose the new washer and dryer, this bathroom would fix up in a snap. We  were working on a small budget so we kept the floors and area around the bathtub neutral by adding a travertine “look” tile.  The existing tub would stay but lots of elbow grease brought back a new gleaming white finish.  The fresh dusty blue wall color updated the space and brought the cottage feel back to the room.

Before: This bathroom looked pitiful when I first walked in. The floors, ceiling and existing sink area had to go.  The door opened into the vanity area so changing the direction of the swing would be crucial to the function of the bathroom. The existing vanity area will need to go in order to make room for a washer and dryer.  Once again, the ceiling tiles will be replaced with new sheetrock and the one existing light fixture does not do the room any favors!

The Result: This small bathroom now has light, charm and functions as the home’s laundry room too!  It’s amazing what you can fit into a small room when you make the most of your existing space. With out tearing out any walls, we were able to open up this bathroom and create a place for the owner and their guest to freshen up.  By changing the swing of the door, we created a nice walkway from then entry to the back of the bathroom.  The addition of wall sconces on either side of the vanity brings a much needed light for getting ready.

  1. Loving that barn door. Pretty pretty results. Great job!

  2. I adore the barn door. I have to say, I’m usually a sucker for old black and white tile, but there’s no doubt that this was a breath of fresh air.
