    Hey Punkin!

Not only is it Halloween today, it’s also my sweet hubby’s birthday!  He’s not much on birthdays but don’t think I didn’t pull out the jack-o-lantern birthday cup for his morning coffee!   So today is all about Drusky’s big day and pumpkins!!!!
My favorite pumpkin treat….Starbuck’s Pumpkin Spice Latte! It really is a one time thing with me because it is so rich, I’ll go back to my Grande 140′ SVL  tomorrow!

I’m also feeling a little “Martha Stewart” ish today! This cranberry stuffed pumpkin bread might be in our future!! I’ll need to do something with the left over baby pumpkins!

    Ingredients

    • 1  (2 1/2- to 3-pound) pumpkin*
    • 2  tablespoons  butter or margarine, melted and divided
    • 2  tablespoons  sugar, divided
    • 2  large eggs
    • 1/2  cup  sugar
    • 1/2  cup  butter or margarine, melted
    • 3/4  cup  half-and-half
    • 3/4  cup  chopped pecans, toasted
    • 1  (16-ounce) raisin bread loaf, cut into 1-inch cubes
    • 1/2  cup  fresh cranberries
    • Lemon-Vanilla Sauce

    Preparation

Cut off top of pumpkin, reserving lid with stem. Scoop out pumpkin seeds and pulp, and reserve for another use. Brush inside of pumpkin shell with 1 tablespoon melted butter. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Top with lid.

Bake at 350° for 35 minutes.

Brush inside of baked pumpkin shell with 1 tablespoon butter; sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar.

Stir together eggs and next 6 ingredients; spoon pudding mixture into a lightly greased 8-inch square pan.

Bake pumpkin and bread pudding at 350° for 25 minutes. Let pumpkin cool; spoon bread pudding evenly into pumpkin shell. Serve with Lemon-Vanilla Sauce.

Note: For individual servings, substitute 12 (1/2-pound) pumpkins. Scoop out seeds and pulp; sprinkle each pumpkin shell with 1 teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon sugar, and bake with the bread pudding. (Do not prebake as with the larger pumpkin.) Spoon bread pudding evenly into baked pumpkin shells.

    Bye Bye Blahs

Did you know that the word “blah” is actually listed in the dictionary? Webster defines it as “a feeling of dullness, boredom, lethargy, likened to a winter’s day.”

My client’s master bath room was giving them a serious case of the “blahs” and a much needed overhaul was in order.  The layout was a complete waste of space and the building standard finishes were not bringing in the contemporary glitzy look!  There are a few finishing touches left to implement but this master bath has shaken the blahs!

Take a look at the BEFORE: The angled wall in the corner was taking up so much space and he existing cabinets were not providing the storage needed.  The dated “hollywood” vanity lights and non descriptive mirrors needed to go too.

AFTER: WOW WOW WOW!!! This master bathroom does not even look like the same room! That pesky angled wall was torn  out, the floors replaced with a charcoal tile and that accent wall….heaven!  Individual free standing vanities bring in the contemporary feel my client was looking for.

Every glitzy bathroom needs a chandelier…

I’m am currently putting the finishing touches on this jewel! I can’t wait to share the final pics!!

    You work on commission right?

Commissioned art  has been my latest obsession.  I have been working on a client’s home and we needed pieces that were contemporary and custom in size. We needed to specify the color, movement and texture of the piece for the space and were not finding anything that was perfect for the space.  My go to guy? That would be Dallas Contemporary artist Chris Judy.  Over the past few months I have been stopping by Chris’ studio to see the progress of these 5′x7′ beauties and the process has been fascinating.  I hope to add these lovelies to the Shop very soon!

I left Chris with fabric swatches from the project after discussing the likes and dislikes of contemporary art with my client. These two were created as a pair and will hang above the most amazing Ebanista buffet pieces!   Here are the pieces just before Chris puts the final touches on them.  They are being photographed this week and will be on their way to their new home soon.  I promise to share pictures once they have been framed and installed in the main entry!

Now for the details.  Chris’ use of metal & wax layered over the many levels of light and  texture are gorgeous.  Here is a close up of the metal drops.

    Ten 25 = Three

Today is Ten 25!  Three years ago today I married Dru Fenimore and found my brutally honest best friend and sarcastic equal in life! Saying “I do” to him that day was the beginning of this wonderful chapter in my life. Happy Anniversary Drusky! Thank you for teaching me that 99% of life is about showing up!

We were married at Auberge du Soleil in Napa Valley. The weather was a perfect 72 degrees and the 48 guests were made up of our family and closest friends.

    The details

    A few additions…..

Our first home!  We moved into our new home shortly after we were married and started the renovation of our 1950′s ranch within a few months of moving in! A little advise….don’t live in your house while it is being remodeled! It was a nightmare.

Studio Ten 25 becomes official!  Dru actually came up with the name.  Studio, because it reminds me of those many many hours spent in the design studio back in college!   Ten 25, because I wanted something with numbers that would mean something special, so instead of 1025 we got a little tricky.

At the Studio Ten 25 launch Party!

The last step, adding to the family! We lost our first puppy, Cricket just after her 1st birthday and it was one of the most awful experiences to move past.

Now we have Caddo and Ivy! Ivy reminds me so much of Cricket and has the same personality.  Having two dogs is perfect for us, we each have a buddy! When hunting season comes around they are very much daddy’s little girls!

And since you’ve made it to the end of the post….here is a little treat! We want to celebrate our latest addition to Ten 25 and are offering 20% off EVERY ITEM in the shop for today!

    House Swap

Have you seen The Holiday? The movie about two women troubled with guy-problems that swap homes in each other’s countries, where they each meet a local guy and fall in love.  I watched it this past weekend and found the perfect …well two perfect homes for a swap!  I love David Jimenez and his Palm Springs Regency and Mid-Century design projects are on the top of my swap list!

But if I had my pick I would go for this Palm Springs Regency!  After a week in this swanky place, I would probably go home and completely remodel my studio! The graphic wallpaper, the mirrors, the chandeliers and THE POOL!!!!  The stars are aligned and this one is perfect….just look at the address…Yep…1025!

Home Away From Home: First Impressions

Amanda contacted me for help with her newly updated entry and was ready for a major change.  After replacing the worn out carpet with espresso stained maple hardwoods, adding crown moulding and updating the paint she had no idea what to do next. She said the “boxy” entry felt cold and she was ready to add pieces that would make a “wow” first impression. She was ready to bring in statement pieces and go chic!

Since Amanda send me pieces from Shop Ten 25 as inspiration and requested our “home away from home” online design service, she will receive a discount on any purchase she makes from the shop!

So, here is what I have come up with! A space that is classy, chic and full of statement pieces! I’m in love…

Here are a few of the requests that Amanda gave me for the space and the breakdown of the pieces:

    * “I’m open to a console table, but really have my heart set on a large piece that can also be used as storage.”

This espresso lacquer and mirrored buffet piece is from World’s Away. It brings in the sophistication and chic feel that Amanda was wanting. We have also resolved the storage concern that she has. This AVA buffet will be the perfect place for anything that Amanda needs to tuck away.

    * ” I am open to bringing in art as long as it’s something bright and abstract. I’m really not a landscape / floral type of girl”

Silver Lining from artist Chris Judy is simply stunning and the colors will give us plenty of options when selecting the accessories!  With four sizes to select from, Amanda can work with the scale that fits best in the entry. I  have suggested the 36″x54″ on canvas and if framing the print is not a priority, it will be gorgeous just stretched.

    * “As for the walls in the entry, I really really really want to bring in a wallpaper. Something with a pattern but simple, I don’t want to spend money on something that won’t look good if I change things up down the road.”

Simple, classic and something that works with everything……can you say Kelly Wearstler Imperial Trellis in Alabaster?! This classic pattern is perfect for Amanda’s entry! The warm alabaster color will compliment the new hardwoods and create movement without overpowering the room.

” I know I’ve asked you to help me with the entry but the dining room is just off of this space. Would you be able to suggest a basic dining chair that will blend with my entry? I plan to place the extra dining chairs by the entry console piece, it’s a look that I have been wanting for a while now.”

Amanda did include pictures of her dining room to help me with the selection of the dining chairs. These ivory leather Marilyn chairs work perfectly with the the pieces in the entry and finding a dining table to compliment these beauties will be easy!

I also love these Trina Turk Shanghai pillows in black and ivory too! They bring in a little pattern without creating a graphic over kill!

    * “I must have a starburst mirror! I love them and really want to bring one into the space.”

Check!  How about two of them in a warm iron finish to frame out that stunning piece of art?!  I love the way they look over the dining chairs too, very chic!

*”As for accessories, I am really open to anything. I must say, I have been obsessing over the two ceramic parrots at Shop Ten 25…hint hint!”

Now we need a little bit of color to tie in with the painting, I love these Paulette lamps from Arteriors Home!

The finishing touch, the two white ceramic parrots!

Know what you want but not quite sure how to pull it all together? Let our home away from home online design services inspire you to finish your room!  We are adding our home away from home services to Shop Ten 25 very soon!
