Fresh Air

We have had our patio furniture for four years now and it is clearly time to replace the cushions.  I have been looking around for new cushions as well as inspiration for a new look for our back patio.  West Elm, Zgallerie and Pottery Barn & Restoration Hardware are filling their catalogues with fun outdoor furniture. Here are a few of my favorite outdoor pics.

Scheming

Lately, most of my clients are requesting the same color scheme for their space. I must say that I am loving the sudden demand for fresh white rooms with jade green, turquoise and pops of yellow.  My other favorite…black and white rooms with pops of yellow, orange and turquoise.  I just can’t resist a zebra rug either!

Here are a few images from my client’s inspiration files.  Looking forward to showing you the rooms as they come together!

Dining Room Sneak Peak

I am working on a model for a downtown loft and wanted to share a few pics. I purchased this amazing white bamboo dining room table and chairs a few weeks ago and spent the weekend updating them.  I stopped by my fabric fabric store in Dallas, City Craft and picked up a few patterns for the project. The black and white trellis pattern from Paula Prass is classic and really gave these chairs the WOW factor.  I have a few other pieces that I will finish this weekend but for now, here is the sneak peak!!

Fictional Interiors

Etsy is a great resource for the unusual and unique find. I was searching for art, did a search for interiors and this is what popped up….

Stephanie Levy’s Etsy shop is full of fabulous pieces. She is an American living in Germany and even has a blog where she posts precious drawings from her daughter like this one…

Here are a few of my favorites from Stephanie. She paints, draws and makes some of the most stunning collages I have seen. I love how she names each piece after an individual city.   Paris, Portland, Barcelona & Lisbon to name a few.

Pouf

What a perfect place to plop down, rest your head or just kick your feet up. I love poufs, so much in fact that I find myself looking for pictures of them all the time.  A strange obsession? I guess but they are all so colorful, textural and will actually be used in a space.  So as I close out the Studio for the night, I though I would post a few of my favorite poufs as well as a few of my favorite images with poufs.

Windsor Smith, your my hero!

Nothing makes my day more than seeing an idea turn into reality. My clients have been on the look out for affordable accent chairs with a chic graphic pattern and finding something under $1500 per chair was quite the challenge.  So, we took a few steps back and started to look for two matching accent chairs that we could recover for under $1500..for the pair.

My Client picked up these two accent chairs on clearance at Macy’s for $199 each!  The sweeping arms and overall scale were exactly what we had in mind.

My client has great taste and wanted to go with the classic black and ivory color palette for the living room. She choose Kravet’s Black and Ivory Riad from Windsor Smith. Now we just have to be patient and wait for the sofa, rug and classic hollywood regency cornice board and draperies and the room will be super chic!

The Sunburst Mirror, always in style

I’m still obsessed with the shape and glamour of a starburst mirror. I also love the fact that is has become so mainstream that affordable retailers have continued to offer them.  As a designer, I have access to trade only products so I thought that I would share a few of them along with my favorite styles from stylish retailers.

But first, here are a few of my favorite pics.

Zgallerie, Crate & Barrel, Target and Walmart are just a few of the places you can snag a starburst mirror at a great price.  The offerings range in finishes from driftwood to gold and silver. If you looking for a specific color, try looking at TJMaxx or Homegoods for a deal so you can repaint it to match your decor!

Whoo Hoo, I scored this fabulous wood sunburst mirror at my local TJMaxx Homegoods for $59!!!

Here is an affordable option from Wally World

A great snag from Target.com

pinch pinch

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years. On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast—on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.

Well, I don’t have cabbage but how about a few of my favorite green finds?

How do you work?

Lately, I’ve noticed many of my friends have jobs that allow them to work from home. And if  they run their small business from home, they are always looking for ways to organize the space and to create an atmosphere that feels completely different from the rest of their home.  When my husband started his own business last November and moved into an official lease space, I took over!  Our third bedroom took a complete 180 and went from a dark  ”dude room” with golf trophies and a leather recliner to a bright and glamorous studio for me to be inspired!  So come on in and have a look around.

I really can’t help this but I am a fan of draperies that blend with the paint color. I think it is soothing brings warmth to the room without taking the focus away from the overall look. The wall color is Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray, West Elm Velvet drapes and Ikea’s Effektiv storage system kept the room affordable.

I snagged this stunning white lacquer desk from Area 25 on Lovers Lane for $200! I LOVE the brass inlay, it reminds me of something my mother would have had in the 70′s.

The exiting built-in book shelves were dull, so I turned to my new favorite fabric store City Craft Dallas for a dash of color and pattern. I purchased display boards, cut them to fit the backs of the shelves and covered them with the fabric, see past post. Voila! An inexpensive update that makes a big change to room. I love having all of my design magazines out and easy to grab so I just stacked them on the lower shelf.  The basket is a great place to keep the fabrics I am  inspired by and using on current projects.

The three favorite men in my life…my Dad, my Nephew Braden and of course my  fabulous husband! Displaying personal items such as pictures and nick knacks from past travels and my favorite books make the room feel complete.

Hollywood Regency on Ebay, Craigslist and Etsy

I recently purchased a fabulous white bamboo dining room table and chairs for a client’s dining room on ebay. I am so excited to get the set and see it in the room! I was really shocked and excited to see all of the “hollywood regency” and “KWID” pieces on the site and wanted to share a few of them.

Sometimes it’s fun to add a piece or two to a room that didn’t come from a retail store. Mixing the old with the new and creating an eclectic feel can really make a room feel fresh, comfortable and like it took years to collect everything. If you are an avid DIY er, there is no limit to the fabulous pieces you could create and customize for your home.

1. Craigs list is always hit or miss but the hits are fabulous. Check out these snags. Sometimes sellers will ship the item if you arrange the service, try Uship. It’s a great resource to name your price and sit back and watch the bids roll in.

One of the latest additions to Dallas, the White Elephant!!! Kristin Dowd’s shop is stocked full of hollywood glam mirrors, tables, lamps and everything you need to rock out the hollywood regency look! If you are in Dallas, this is a must see. White Elephant is located at 1026 N Industrial Blvd. She updates her craig’s list postings so search her store for updates!

These Bamboo Chairs $175 for the Pair!! Check out her other fab items too!

$150!!!! If you are in New York, I’m so jealous. I LOVE this coffee table!!!

The Recycle Junkie in Fort Worth, Tx also offers the hollywood glam look. Her photo bucket is full of funky lamps, tables and other seating.

I LOVE these sunny orange/yellow velvet wingback chairs with shiny white legs and nailhead trim for only $695..for the pair!

A white cane/bamboo accent chair with a black micro velvet upholstery is only $295 or OBO!!

This 67″ wide buffet is only $295!!

I am also a big fan of Etsy. There isn’t much you can’t find here and a simple search for  ”hollywood regency” turns up beautiful things! Here are a few of my favorites from Wright at Home Vintage. By the way, I love their logo!!

Not sure if I could find a place for all three of these benches but having them recovered to fit a specific color palette would be fun!

How cute are these stools? Although they are super cute, the price tag was a bit of a wowza, at $850 for the set I can only admire them!

And from another Etsy shop, this vintage chair is well priced at $525. I could see it recovered in something like this: See 6th Street Design School for more fun upholstery ideas.

Ebay is also a great resource for hollywood regency pieces.

Here a just a few of the TONS of great Hollywood Regency pieces I have seen recently on Ebay.

It’s a bit of a challenge to get an affordable shipping option when you snag two huge faux bamboo mirrors for less than $300!!   BUT, you can always use uship to gather bids that fit you budget!

Although this may not look like much, refinishing this headboard from ebay in a white lacquer would be stunning. You could always add a lush velvet to the inside for a softer look.
