On The Shelf

If your not into junking up your bookshelves, but still want a completed, look today is your lucky day. Using fabric or wallpaper on the back of bookshelves is a great go-to when making your shelves look complete . Select a pattern that is simple and neutral if you want to go with bold books, art and accessories on your shelves. If minimal is the look your going for,  the wallpaper can have a bit more flare with pattern and color.  From bold and beautiful to simple yet chic, hopefully these stylish shelves will inspire you.

Dallas Morning News {June Home Team}

The Dallas Morning News started a new designer home team series that runs the first Saturday of each month.

Emily Hewett of A Well Dressed Home, Dallas,

Abbe Fenimore of Studio Ten 25, Dallas,

Barbara Gilbert of Barbara Gilbert Interiors, Dallas,

Ashlina Kaposta of Ashlina Kaposta Interiors, Dallas,

Elaine Williamson-Romero of Elaine Williamson Designs, Dallas,

We are now in the 4th month of the home team series and I am loving the feedback that has been received. Five Dallas designers (including yours truly) are asked to discuss the latest trends and share tips and tricks for making them work in your home.

This month focuses on Tile and how to incorporate the best look for your space.

Some design elements are easy to change — paint, fabric, accessories. Tiles and countertops, not so much. You want to make sure you get them right, but that doesn’t mean you have to steer clear of color or personality.

From floor to ceiling and kitchen to office, there’s no shortage of places where tiles work. With diverse styles and materials from sturdy and practical to decorative and showstopping, there are almost infinite looks and combinations to be made with tiles.

If you want something a little more exciting than the basic subway tile but are not sure how to still keep things basic, try a simple pattern. We used a bold mirrored moroccan tile from Ann Sacks over the stove but kept the overall feel minimal by using a more simple linear tile throughout the remaining areas of the kitchen back splash.

We instantly feel in love with the Arabesque pattern and used the soft white glass version to bring a little interest to this kitchen. We didn’t want to go overboard with the back splash, but also didn’t want to settle for the standard subway tile either.

Fashion & Furniture

I love the images showing how an outfit translates to a particular room style, I we are playing around with that a bit today.  Jewel tones, brass and updated polka dots are all over the spring runway so we thought it would be fun to pair them with our favorite pieces.  Now you can love the look when you go out and keep your home looking chic too.  You can shop all of the pieces from our Spring Look Book by clicking on the images below.

Get The Look {Chic Entry}

This West Village townhome is the perfect chic retreat for super model Karlie Kloss.

The mix of patterns and textures give this space its unique feel. Pairing simple basics and layering
with fun pops of color is what makes this such a fun and stylish inspiration to Get the Look!

Get The Look {Spring Updates}

Updating your bedroom for Spring can be easy with just a few colorful changes. Freshen  up your pillows with flirty florals and bold textural solids to bring color to the room. Updating art and accessories can also bring a clean new look to any room without breaking the bank.

We spotted this space on The Handmade Home  and thought is was the perfect inspiration for today’s Get The Look. This fun space has the perfect blend of chic turqouise and rasberry hues that do not fail to excite the senses. Adding plush textures serve to give this room its inviting feel. Push the boundries and get your color on!

Times Two Design {Lamp Challenge}

When Lauren from Times Two Design asked me to participate in their lamp challenge, I immediately said yes. I have been a huge fan of Times Two’s pieces for a few years now, and knew immediately where I was going to use the lamp. I selected the turquoise mini-slag lamp and it is perfect in our guest room. The timing couldn’t be more perfect and I’m excited to show off the new look!

BEFORE:  The dark bedding was too heavy for the bright room, and the vintage turquoise lamp was just too large for the night stand.  I loved the velvet stripe on the headboard, so keeping that and bring in fresh updates was the plan.

AFTER: A fresh new vibe! I love crisp white bedding, so I mixed in a few pieces from Peacock Alley with Kelly Wearstler’s teal Katana Pillows to brighten it up. Scale is one of the  most important design elements in a space, so it was time to get it right.  A few colorful books, a stunning quartz mounted on brass and colorful art from Cocoa and Hearts helped pull it all together. Now we have a guest room with a super chic night stand and a turquoise slag lamp really bring the wow factor to the room!

And if your looking for a few chic pieces to add from Times Two Design’s collection, your in luck! Here are a few of our favorites from the line that will make styling any night stand or coffee table a breeze! Trays are the perfect way to bring in a pop of color and are a great place to organize multiple pieces. I’m in love with their acrylic agate trays and have used them a few times in client’s homes.

Boxes also make accessorizing easy. We used this black lacquer box with blue quartz in a client’s entry space to bring in a bold pop of color. Boxes are so easy to layer and look great on top of a stack of books too.
