    Loving Arabesque

After yesterday’s post on a recent Home Away From Home project update, I received quite a few questions about the creme and grey Arabesque rug in the photos.  Most of you wanted to know about the quality of the rug. The quality is top notch, soft texture and simplistic details within the pattern too.  And of course you wanted to know how to get your hands on this gorgeous piece! Well,  we carry it as well as it’s fabulous coral counterpart at Shop Ten 25.

I have used the Coral Arabesque rug in a Studio Ten 25 home office project and it was stunning! Here are a few of my favorite Coral Arabesque installations…

The grey and creme version is the latest addition to the collection and it’s tone one tone grey graphic is classic, chic and works well in so many types of rooms…I’m so happy that my client decided to wait for this beauty to come in from it’s crazy long backorder!

    Home Away From Home Progress

I rarely ever receive updates and images from our Home Away From Home clients.  So, imagine my surprise when I received a few stunning progress images from a recent HAH client.  She is super adorable and lives with her boyfriend and precious puppy!  I think the a best way to tell you what her before was like…is to just show you!

BEFORE:  A basic space in serious need of pattern, color and overall welcoming feeling that will make entertaining fun!

We talked about bringing in draperies to soften the windows, a softer and larger scale rug and new furniture pieces.  She started by updating the paint, lighting and replacing the sofa.  I CAN NOT wait to see the finished look soon!

AFTER: I mean…it’s just fabulous! I am so happy with the choices she has made and once her dining and kitchen are updated, I will share them too!!

    Home Away From Home Inspiration

Today I wanted to share a few inspiration and design boards from a Home Away From Home project we have been working on.  The client is keeping most of their main furniture and everything is in basic neutrals so this makes bringing in color super easy. Sometime getting a little direction from a designer is all a client needs. They know what they love, but have not idea where to start and how to pull it all together. This project was the perfect example of that.

The entry of this home has a narrow hallway that opens up into the main living area with high ceilings and a fabulous nook by the stairs.  Here was our inspiration and favorite pieces for the entry and stair nook.

Since we didn’t have much space to work with, bringing in a mirrored parsons table with simple accessories and bold artwork will really make this entrance grand.  A tur

The living room has cream furniture, dark hardwoods and a fireplace screaming for a fantastic wallpaper!  With super high ceilings and tons of windows, we suggested neutral linen drapery with a pop of turquoise trim running down each side.  A graphic rug, stunning lighting and of course a few x-benches to complete the seating area.

The master bedroom also has most of the basics in place. But with a new grand upholstered headboard, colorful accent pillows, and maybe even a wallpaper for added glamour.  Replacing a few pieces like night stands that are more to scale and updated draperies will complete the soothing look our client is going for.

    Decorating With Pillows {She Knows}

I met Laura Carson Miller last year and was honored to be a guest blogger on her site a few months ago. Laura is freelance lifestyle writer in Atlanta, writing for magazines and the web. Her favorite subjects include beauty, health/wellness, and financial issues. She is also an avid cook, gardener, fashionista and interior stylist extraordinaire.

I wanted to share this article she wrote on She Knows {Home and Garden} about Decorating with Pillows. I was able to show off a few of my design projects and talk about the impact pillows can have in your space.  Thank you Laura!

    Designing For The Kiddos

I been working on a new Home Away From Home project converting a nursery to a toddler room and playroom and have been on the hunt for the perfect rug. Having access to SHOP TEN 25 is a blessing and I find my self “shopping”  in my own store.  We recently added a full like of children’s rugs to the shop so I wanted to share my top pics for this project.

The baby girl’s nursery is a pink, white and green color palette and her mom wanted to keep the existing paint and drapes. We are adding a new “big girl” bed and replacing the carpet with hardwoods so we need a great statement rug now.  Modern birds are the theme for the room and I found just the rug for the space.  This rug is perfect, it brings in the modern bird theme and works with the pink paint and white drapes…I’m thinking a green or turquoise chandelier may find it’s way into the room too! I’m working on the inspiration board over the next few days so stay tuned!

The playroom space is just outside of the room and now that the hardwoods are going in, we need a fun run to soften the space up.  This is a family of three, two boys and the baby girl so we need to bring in a rug that is durable, stylish and affordable.  We are looking at a poly/acrylic blend hook rug for the space. Acrylic hook rugs are soft under foot and can also be used outdoor, they are durable enough to stand up to little kiddos and all of their spills.

This modern animal rug is the top choice so far. The colors are easy to decorate around but branch out from the typical primary color palette that you see in many kids area.

So if your in the market for a rug that is durable enough to stand up to you kiddos…check out our options in The Shop

Home Away From Home: Living With Options

I recently finished a Home Away From Home project with two color options for the living room. It’s always nice to show a client how versatile their existing pieces can be with just a few simple changes.  This living room has dark espresso wood floors, a fresh coat of soft blue paint on the walls and a fabulous creme sofa to anchor the space.  Here are the additions we suggested!

COLOR OPTION #1:  GREEN & TEAL

With such simple basics in place, adding a pop of color and pattern will bring the room into the eclectic chic feel my client is after.  The silk drapes bring in a touch of sophistication while the warmer green hue is fun and a great accent against the blue walls.  By using pillows and x-benches to bring in more of the green and teal accent color, this room screams chic!

    Media Console

    Coffee Table

    Rug

    Accent Chairs

    Another accent chair option.

Green Accent Pillows |  Teal Accent Pillows |  Patterned Pillow

    X-Benches

    Mirror

    Side Tables

COLOR OPTION #2:  BLUE & YELLOW

If a softer look & feel is what my client is more comfortable with, this palette is going to be the best choice.  By using an eclectic patterned drape, we are able to set the stage for the blue and yellow accents.  When we change out the rug with something more simple but still graphic, the overall feel stays eclectic.  I love mixing patterns in a room, it keeps you eye moving.  And by keeping the pattern similar in color, they will relate well to each other.

Drapes In Boteh Jade:  I love the fact that we can do the drapes or roman shade.  I also like the white with blue accent roman shade mixed with the drapes.

Home Away From Home – Hollywood Regency

Another Home Away From Home e-design project is finally ready to share today! I couldn’t wait to get started on Cameron’s project as soon as I saw her inspiration pictures! She is a HUGE Kelly Wearstler fan (who isn’t?) and wanted her living room in  ”true Kelly Wearstler style” …I’m jumping up and down while clapping right now!

Cameron will be using her chocolate brown sofa, dark wood side tables, table lamps and current ivory wall color.   She asked for blues, yellows and golds with bold accent pieces in a variety of price ranges and styles.  Since Cameron is working with a modest budget, investing in affordable pieces was key. She wanted to add a handful of accessories now, and then she will begin to “collect” others as they catch her eye.   I think Cameron’s room is off to a glamorous Hollywood Regency start!

Here is the breakdown for Cameron’s room.

RUG: This gorgeous rug has a classic Kelly Wearstler look and was the perfect piece to anchor the room and set the tone for the color palette.  The rug is also available in three sizes so finding one to fit your room should be easy.

SOFA: Cameron’s existing sofa is a beautiful rich chocolate brown and  similar styles can be found HERE.

ACCENT CHAIRS: Cameron asked for a fun mix of accent chairs and her number one request was to have a yellow accent chair in the room.  We will add a neutral high back chair in the room to create the eclectic feel that Cameron is also drawn to.

TABLES: Metallic Gold tables are a must for the KW look!   The coffee table has a fabulous graphic pattern on each leg while the twig accent tables soften things up. Using a mix of shapes and sizes in this room keeps it from feeling planned and allows for a more intimate seating area.

THE FINISHING TOUCHES: The accessories are always my favorite part. Finding pieces to bring in a touch of glam is something that KW always rocks out. So for Cameron, we pulled pieces that were affordable and could be easily moved around as she adds on to the room.

Accent Pillows: Shanghai Pillow in Brown, Moroccan Pillow in Brown & Yellow Lumbar

This gold bamboo mirror is all Hollywood Regency! It will look perfect in Cameron’s Living room and it’s super affordable!

I’m a sucker for a fabulous storage box and this beauty will find it’s new home on the coffee table! This brass cast flower is simply gorgeous and the perfect accessory for Cameron’s living room!

Home Away From Home – Guest Room Update

When Julie asked me to help get her house in order before the holidays, I was really excited! The master bathroom & kitchen were recently remodeled and the new hardwoods are going in soon! Everything was coming together but the house just needed a few finishing touches. Since Julie and her husband will be welcoming family for Thanksgiving, I thought I would get the guest bedroom completed first.

Julie’s style is transitional/modern/eclectic so finding pieces that worked was easy.  The bedroom only has an iron bed and is currently used as the “catch all” and storage space in the house.   Let’s get into the details and start with the overall look of the room!

    Guest Room Product Resource List

HEADBOARD:  Home Shopping Network.  I love this pattern and it’s graphic without being too modern and it is the jumping off point for the entire room!

BEDDING: This organic pin tucked bedding from West Elm is super soft and very chic. It can also look good folded up at the end of the bed to show off the yellow coverlet or blanket!

THROW/COVERLET: Add a coverlet between the top sheet and duvet for a pop of color or use this throw on top of the bed for the same look.

    ACCENT PILLOWS:

These blue velvet pillows from Crate and Barrel will bring in the wall color and accents from the headboard. Place two of them on the bed and then add this fun 14×36 mongolian lamb pillow in front.

The geometric yellow and white pillow will look perfect in the accent chair and on the bed too!

NIGHT STANDS: These parsons tables from West Elm are the perfect size for the bedroom. I love the white finish but if you want to warm the room up, they have an espresso finish as well.

LAMPS: I love these yellow lamps from Lamps Plus. The color is not too YELLOW and the chrome base is good. You can find yellow lamps in many stores now so just go with what you love.

ACCENT PIECES FOR THE WALLS: These small starburst mirrors would look perfect over each nightsand and hung just over the lamps. The light will bounce off of the beads and create a sparkle!

ART: This tall piece from Sugarboo Designs has the perfect mix of colors in the room and the softness will be a good contrast to the leather accent chair!

LOUNGE CHAIR: This chair looks like a million bucks! The price is awesome (under $300 and $2  shipping!! )and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the detailing on the sides! A classic corner piece that is a bit oversized but the white will keep it visually simple.

ACCENT TABLE: Bring in a simple white accent table next to the chairs. These to paired with the yellow pillow and art will pop off of the China Blue walls! Set a small stack of colorfull books on the table for a finished look.

DRAPES: Amazon.com  96” length white velvet drapes $51.99 each panel. Any white drape will do, I love the texture of the velvet, but you can use linen or cotton too.

Home Away From Home: First Impressions

Amanda contacted me for help with her newly updated entry and was ready for a major change.  After replacing the worn out carpet with espresso stained maple hardwoods, adding crown moulding and updating the paint she had no idea what to do next. She said the “boxy” entry felt cold and she was ready to add pieces that would make a “wow” first impression. She was ready to bring in statement pieces and go chic!

Since Amanda send me pieces from Shop Ten 25 as inspiration and requested our “home away from home” online design service, she will receive a discount on any purchase she makes from the shop!

So, here is what I have come up with! A space that is classy, chic and full of statement pieces! I’m in love…

Here are a few of the requests that Amanda gave me for the space and the breakdown of the pieces:

    * “I’m open to a console table, but really have my heart set on a large piece that can also be used as storage.”

This espresso lacquer and mirrored buffet piece is from World’s Away. It brings in the sophistication and chic feel that Amanda was wanting. We have also resolved the storage concern that she has. This AVA buffet will be the perfect place for anything that Amanda needs to tuck away.

    * ” I am open to bringing in art as long as it’s something bright and abstract. I’m really not a landscape / floral type of girl”

Silver Lining from artist Chris Judy is simply stunning and the colors will give us plenty of options when selecting the accessories!  With four sizes to select from, Amanda can work with the scale that fits best in the entry. I  have suggested the 36″x54″ on canvas and if framing the print is not a priority, it will be gorgeous just stretched.

    * “As for the walls in the entry, I really really really want to bring in a wallpaper. Something with a pattern but simple, I don’t want to spend money on something that won’t look good if I change things up down the road.”

Simple, classic and something that works with everything……can you say Kelly Wearstler Imperial Trellis in Alabaster?! This classic pattern is perfect for Amanda’s entry! The warm alabaster color will compliment the new hardwoods and create movement without overpowering the room.

” I know I’ve asked you to help me with the entry but the dining room is just off of this space. Would you be able to suggest a basic dining chair that will blend with my entry? I plan to place the extra dining chairs by the entry console piece, it’s a look that I have been wanting for a while now.”

Amanda did include pictures of her dining room to help me with the selection of the dining chairs. These ivory leather Marilyn chairs work perfectly with the the pieces in the entry and finding a dining table to compliment these beauties will be easy!

I also love these Trina Turk Shanghai pillows in black and ivory too! They bring in a little pattern without creating a graphic over kill!

    * “I must have a starburst mirror! I love them and really want to bring one into the space.”

Check!  How about two of them in a warm iron finish to frame out that stunning piece of art?!  I love the way they look over the dining chairs too, very chic!

*”As for accessories, I am really open to anything. I must say, I have been obsessing over the two ceramic parrots at Shop Ten 25…hint hint!”

Now we need a little bit of color to tie in with the painting, I love these Paulette lamps from Arteriors Home!

The finishing touch, the two white ceramic parrots!
