Yellow Radiance

Excited to see one of our bold office spaces featured on Decoist – interior design and architecture latest post “Energize Your Workspace: 30 Home Offices with Yellow Radiance”

“A splash of yellow in the home office can completely alter the ambiance of the room, and the more neutral the color palette of you home office, the better it is visually. Fun, vivacious and at times mesmerizing! ”

Rue Daily {Layering}

I’m sharing my top tips for layering color, pattern and texture on Rue Magazine ’s Rue Daily. I love talking about my favorite ways to layer texture, pattern and color in the spaces that I design. Thank you Rue for sharing my tips!

“Many of us hold back when deciding on the overall look and feel for our rooms. I love when a client is open to incorporating daring pieces without worrying about what visitors will say. If you can’t stop thinking about an element, just go for it.”

Accent Walls {Tips & Tricks}

Wanting to add an accent wall to your space? I am sharing a few tips on Real Simple this week!

Generally, an accent wall is supposed to be the focal point of the room, so select the color wisely. “I tend to work with accent colors that are within the same color palette as the space,” says interior designer Abbe Fenimore. “That way, the space has depth, looks cohesive, and is tactfully layered. If a really bold color is used, it’s important to incorporate that color around the room using art, accessories, or a great rug.”

Budget Decorating Tips {Real Simple}

Real Simple reached out to me and 9 other designers for insight on how to create a stylish home without breaking the banks.  You can find my tip under #4 on the list.

#4: Shop Your Own Home

Sometimes you don’t have to buy anything to decorate a space. “Make the most of your existing pieces,” says interior designer Abbe Fenimore. “Move things around or relocate them to another room, where they could change or help elevate the look. You’d be surprised at how versatile your furniture is.”

Design Don’ts

This Month’s Home Team feature in The Dallas Morning News is all about what not to do when designing your home. We are sharing a few of our tips on how to keep from making those common mistakes. All images: Melanie Johnson Photography for Studio Ten 25

“When you go into as many homes as an interior designer does, you’re bound to see your share of design mistakes. Too much clutter, rugs in the wrong size, mismatched furniture — they’ve seen it all. The good news: Many of the problems are easy to solve. Even better, with a bit of planning — and advice from our Home Team experts — the costly and unsightly mistakes are easy to avoid.”

It can be tempting to make all your purchases from one place and be done with it, but don’t, Abbe Fenimore says.

“Purchasing all of your furniture from the same source or same set is a big no-no,” she says. “You do want the pieces to coordinate and the room to feel cohesive, but you don’t want everything to match perfectly.” It’s hard to create depth and personality in a space if all the pieces look the same.  “Don’t try to re-create a look from your favorite store. There is a good chance that your space will look nothing like it and will always feel like something is missing,” Fenimore says.  Instead, shop around and take your time putting your space together.

Filling a room with family pieces adds history and character, says Fenimore. “Most of the time, you find them hidden in a room that isn’t used or under a pile of boxes in the garage,” she says of inherited furniture. Even if a piece isn’t exactly your taste, if it’s the right scale, there’s a way to make it work.“Having the piece refinished, painted or updated with new hardware can make all the difference and breathe new life into it,” Fenimore says.

Luxe Interiors & Design {Vanities}

Thank you LUXE Interiors + Design for featuring our Ritz project in your “15 Rooms With Stunning Vanity Tables“. We loved going bold with this red lacquer vanity in our Ritz Carlton project. Since we were limited on space in this guest room, the vanity doubles as a nightstand and a great place for guest to sit and get ready too.

Before & After {Small Dining}

Love seeing one of our small dining spaces BEFORE & AFTER featured on House Beautiful Magazine online this week!

The Clients: Newlyweds and first-time homeowners seeking a stylish, modern look.

The Project: A small dining area off of the kitchen.

The Flooring & Walls: We started by replacing the carpet with dark espresso hardwoods, swapping out the dated lighting, and bringing in a fresh color palette of black and white with pops of turquoise and yellow to liven up the space.

The Lighting: The modern drum light fixture and simplistic white silk shades round out the space without taking over visually.
